School Choice Evaluation

The PSC School Choice team is comprised of school psychologists and children’s mental health experts. This combination allows for a thorough, thoughtful, and child-centered approach to school choice evaluation. We work alongside parents, parenting consultants, and mediators to ensure the needs of the family and the needs of the student are considered from a variety of important angles

The Consultant agrees to provide consulting services as follows:
Our goal in supporting families through the educational choice process is to help families better understand their own goals, values, and hopes as they relate to school choice. I find a holistic process including parents/guardians, children, as well as school staff, therapists, coaches etc as needed helps provide a holistic picture that guides the conversation and points a family toward the best possible options. We do not always determine an academic change would be best, we often find that the ideal academic setting is the current setting.  We do find the process of discussion provides families with a sense of peace and calm wherever they land.

Initial Consultation:
This meeting takes place virtually or in person. The PSC team will meet with parents and children (where appropriate). PSC staff will guide the conversation and discuss several aspects as they relate to values, hopes, and goals across several dimensions within the school and academic community environment. This meeting typically takes 1-3 hours depending on the number of family members and needs discussed.

Findings Meeting:
In this findings meeting, the PSC team will provide a written summary as well as a verbal description of the recommendations from research, integration of the family responses, and outreach to schools.  The generation of the report includes research specific to the family, outreach to schools, and the family interview. Creation of this document takes an estimated  5-7 hours to complete.  The Findings Meeting typically takes 1 hour.

Total Hours Estimate: 8-11 hours, cost of initial evaluation, $3500. Additional hours following the findings meeting are billed at a rate of $400/hour.
